GROUP VERBS( PHRASAL VERBS) Before learning about group verbs or phrasal verbs, we need to learn PREPOSITIONAL PHRASES. A preposition is always related to the relation between two things.The noun or noun-type expression follows prepositions. Therefore, the noun or noun-type expression is called a prepositional phrase and that expresses different kinds of meanings, such as direction, location, space , manner, etc. It is to be remembered that some verbs are connected with small words. We call them particles. They are either prepositions, adverbs or both in nature. PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE: The preposition combines with the Noun Phrase and forms a unit and therefore the entire unit is movable to another position in a sentence. E.g. He ran down the street . The boy climbed up a tree . In above two sentences the underlined units are movable, as; Down the street , he ran. Up a tree , he climbed.
